The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k".. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

God’s Timing
I am God. At the right time I’ll make it happen. Isaiah 60:22, The Message.

In this instantaneous age we have come to expect almost everything to happen at the touch of a button. We don’t appear to be able to wait for anything anymore.

Patience seems to be disappearing from our words and our thinking.

As Christians we need to be careful not to be sucked into the mindset of the world where only the quickest is considered the best. Even our God, who is outside of time, took an extended period to create the world, whereas no doubt He could have created it all instantaneously!

God demonstrates such patience as He waits for each of us His children to turn and make our way back to Him. But do we then expect Him to respond instantly to our desires and prayers?

It seems we continually have to be reminded that God’s timing and His ways are so different from ours, but they are so right.

I recall some years ago we took matters into our own hands, due to our impatience in waiting for the Lord to show us the next step. (It was similar to the Abraham and Ishmael incident). We had sold our house and we went and bought another one only to find within weeks that the Lord was actually moving us on and out of that area. If only we had waited to hear from Him. We moved to a house that we were only in for three months. It was a costly lesson, but one we have never forgotten!

Recently I was reminded of Elijah. When he was praying for rain, he sent his servant many times to look for a sign of rain (1 Kings 18:42-44). It was only on the seventh occasion that the servant returned with a positive report. What patience and perseverance they both had!

May we all learn to use the time we save

by using instantaneous devices, to wait on the Lord for

His timing in the things of life that really matter!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, forgive us for always being in such a hurry and expecting You to act according to our timetable and schedule. Help us to use our time wisely and wait on You. Amen.

marbles lesson

A little boy and a little girl who wanted to make a trade.
Her bag of candy for his bag of marbles.

The night before they make the trade, the little boy decides there are three marbles he just can’t part with, so he takes them out and puts them under his pillow.

The next day, he gives her his bag of marbles minus three.
She gives him her candy.
The girl knows nothing about the other three marbles.

The little boy has a hard time sleeping, though.
He keeps wondering if she gave him all of her candy.

What I want to know is have we given God all of our “marbles”?

Or are we wondering if He’s given us all of his?

Until we’ve given God everything we have, we will never be able to know God’s best.
That means letting go of the worldly attitudes.
That means letting go of the foolish ways of the world and holding on to Him.

That means getting a new, Godly attitude about things.

The boy & the starfish...

One day a man was walking along the shore. As he looked down the beach, he saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself to think of someone who would dance during the day. So he began to walk faster to catch up.

As he got closer, he saw that it was a boy and the boy wasn't dancing, but instead, he was reaching down to the shore, picking up something and very gently throwing it into the ocean.

As he got closer he called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?"

The boy paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked, 'Why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"

"The sun is up, and the tide is going out. And if I don't throw them in, they'll die."

"But, young man, don't you realise that there are miles and miles of beach, and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"

The boy listened politely. Then he bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, past the breaking waves and said, "It made a difference for that one."

The man left the boy and went home, deep in thought. Later that day, he returned to the beach and spent the rest of the day helping the boy throw starfish into the sea.

DOING OUR PART:

Have you ever found yourself thinking, "No, I won't do it, what difference does it make?"

The man in the story didn't see any point in doing anything to help the starfish, but the boy knew better.

"It made a difference to that one."

The boy understood that although he couldn't save all the starfish stranded on the beach, he could still do something to help a few starfish.

* Everyone can make a DIFFERENCE in someone's life *

So.. do or say something nice today.. you never know whose life you have touched!
